One person’s snoring can mean the entire family’s discomfort. Not to mention it could be the result of a more serious underlying issue. This is why it is imperative that you speak to a dental healthcare professional about the matter. Sleep apnea is a constriction in the airway while sleeping, usually resulting in snoring. Sleep apnea and snoring do not always go hand in hand, but it is not uncommon when they do. At Start Smiling in Sandy Springs, GA, our first method for treating sleep apnea and snoring is an oral appliance therapy or OAT, also known as a night guard. A custom night guard corrects the position of a sleeping patient’s jaw to help clear the otherwise obstructed airway. If you suspect that your snoring may be the result of sleep apnea, our helpful staff would be glad to schedule you a consultation with our skilled physicians.

"I have been a patient of De. Sayeg’s for many years & have been extremely pleased with all services as well as the staff at Start Smiling Dental. Everyone is very professional but also attentive to the individual needs of the patients. I am so comfortable there, I have been known to fall asleep (without anything) while they were working on my teeth. That shows how much I trust them. I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else."- R.G. / Google / Oct 17, 2018

About the Treatment
With the proper oral appliance for sleep apnea, our patients can prevent or not add to other health problems, including fatigue, loud snoring, heart conditions, high blood pressure, obesity, and weight gain. Oral appliance therapy (a night guard) is the least aggressive treatment for sleep apnea, as some patients must use a C-PAP machine and humidifier with a sleep mask to ward off oxygen deprivation.
What to Expect
To create your night guards, our oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea, your skilled dental team at Start Smiling will take impressions of your mouth and create a high-quality, customized night guard. After your fitting in our office, you will be instructed to wear the night guard every night consistently for optimum results. With the regular use of your OAT night guard, you can expect the alleviation of some of the symptoms of sleep apnea such as loud snoring and chronic fatigue.
Keeping your mouth guard clean is very important, but luckily very easy. While you complete your oral healthcare routine in the morning and evening, we recommend that you also cleanse your night guard at the same time. Then simply rinse, dry and store your night guard in it's container. Be sure to keep your night guard in top-notch condition to ensure optimum results. If you are worried that your night guard may be damaged, take it with you to your next scheduled visit to have our Start Smiling dental team closely examine and repair it if necessary.
