About Dental Implants

When people lose or break their teeth, one of the best ways they can replace them is with implants. Dental Implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically anchored to the jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. One of the major benefits of implants is that they do not rely on neighboring teeth for support, therefore preserving any remaining healthy teeth.

Dental Implants are also a good solution for patients who have uncomfortable fitting Denture.  Implants can be placed in strategic areas of the mouth and then snap into a denture to give a more comfortable fit.

Dental Implants are made of different types of metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that are compatible with body tissues. Most implants are made of titanium, which bonds well with bone and is biocompatible, making it an ideal material for implants.

Are Dental Implants for YOU?

Dental Implants are not an option for everyone. Because implants require surgery, patients must be in good health, have healthy gums, and have adequate bone structure to support the implants. While lack of adequate bone support is a limitation, a bone graft can sometimes be placed to create adequate implant support. Other risk factors are  smoking, diabetes, and acid reflux.

Treatment  Timeline

Dental Implants are traditionally done in stages.

To replace teeth being extracted:

  1. Extraction - The natural tooth is removed and bone graft is placed.
  2. Placement - The implant is placed and then covered back up to allow healing.
  3. Restoration - Approximately 3 months after being placed, the implant has integrated and is ready to have a custom made abutment and crown placed

In the case of previously extracted teeth or to go under dentures:

  1. 3-D scan evaluation to determine if you have adequate bone levels for an implant.
  2. Placement - The implant is placed and then covered back up to allow healing.
  3. Restoration - Approximately 3 months after being placed, the implant has integrated and is ready to be restored.

Cost

The cost of Dental Implants can vary depending on the number of teeth missing and final treatment concerns.   We are happy to work with you on planning the best course of treatment for your needs and will help you find a way to fit it into your budget!

If you have dental insurance and your policy has benefits for Dental Implants then they will cover some of the cost.  Some policies also exclude the replacement of teeth that were missing before you were covered which can also be a factor. We will be happy to review your coverage and maximize your benefits.
